Confirmation candidates follow a biblical history of receiving a name change: Abram became Abraham, Jacob became Israel, Simon became Peter, and Saul became Paul. Choosing a confirmation name can also symbolize a new stage in life. The celebration of confirmation is a time to reaffirm one's baptism and thus should not be seen as a new stage of Christian life but as an opportunity to deepen the graces of baptism.
Candidates are considering saints who model service to God and neighbor in a way that they find especially meaningful, or someone who has overcome struggles and challenges similar to their own. |
